Bake Off News below

Have you got a celebration coming up?  We can tailor make any type of package to your own requirements, whether its a babyshower afternoon tea, A buffet for a Christening or Wake, a Birthday BBQ in our beautiful garden, we even do a very nice Wedding! See our food option on the Menus page. Just get in touch!

Dont forget we are an ideal spot to take on some refreshment and warm up after a bracing walk  around Watermead, dogs are welcome in our bar area.

We continue to make additions to our well-stocked bar; the latest additions being a raft of new spirits to tickle your fancy, Gins, Vodka, Whisky and Brandies aplenty!  We also stock Leffe wheat beer and draught Peroni, the supreme Italian lager with an unmistakeable character.

Stuck for something to do on a Sunday night? Our ever-popular quiz has a fearsome reputation. If you think you've got what it takes to win a bar tab, then we'll see you there for an 8.30pm start (but you may struggle for a table past 8!)

For those just looking for an excuse to visit and sample the liquid refreshment, we have live music every last Friday of the Month with various musical styles on offer.  Two new acts coming up are: Carlton Cole, blues and folk soloist and Strawberry letter, vocal and Piano duo.

Food is also served for those wanting a little musical accompaniment to their dining.

From September 2017

The 5th White Horse Great Birstall Bake off and World’s Largest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support was the most successful so Far.

“Wow!  Said Beccy Kay, “The whole event was an overwhelming success and we are in awe of the support from the local community, with an incredible standard of baking, 58 entries – far surpassing previous year’s numbers, fantastic donations of prizes and queues of people buying cake to help us raise over £1681.

All categories were superbly supported, with both genders and all ages competing for the most prestigious prize in Birstall's bakery calendar.  The judging panel were astounded by the selection; in particular the ‘Best decorated’ category which caused much discussion between the judges.  Entries were even more creative than ever and there were some fantastic tasty contributions from the young bakers in the under 16’s category.

But the Bake off competition was only the start, with all the entries being sold to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Supports world largest coffee morning.  The cakes were sold on the morning of Sunday 24th September in the beautiful sunny garden of the White Horse in Birstall; the weather was perfect, the crowds waited eagerly, in anticipation of the 11am start.  The coffee and cake flew out in just over an hour and so far £1681 was raised- a truly staggering figure.

The carthorse themed raffle stand was also a grand success and bunting helped to create a wonderfully rustic British village aesthetic, with an excellent selection of prizes with a beautiful picture from Glenwoods and afternoon tea vouchers from both Greenacres and Café on the Corner to name only three.

This year there was also a lucky Dip, a bouncy castle, face painting, Nail bar and temporary Tattoos for the Children and some Sunday morning Jazz and the cake bunting provided by the primary school children at Riverside and Highcliffe added to the event which added to the ambience and fun of the day.

Our thanks go to the following for their exceptionally kind contributions and donations; Amy Harrison - Graphic Designer, Kaine’s Castles, kimmys funny faces, Gemma and Molly Evans from Dance Academy, Hannah’s, Glenwood's, Café on the Corner, Stonehurst Farm, Ringtons Tea, Birstall Garden Centre, One Stop- Hallam Fields, Boots, PORK PIE Supplier name, Pukka Pies, Little Red Deli, Tesco, Co-Op, Boots, Platform Café at Greenacres, Shishgo Mangal and Filagree Heart.  Also to Glenn Lewin of Sileby, Brakes, Trust Inns, Creed, Matthew Clarke and Burleigh’s Gin, White Horse Suppliers.

Special thanks also to the judging panel, Toby Milner and family from Milners Bakery, Mary Goodman, Margaret Hoskins from the WI, past winners Emma and Florence Sillet, Gwen Large, Lizzy Keeshan and Lilly Chamberlain as well as the White Horse Chefs

Lastly, Charlotte Foy and Beccy Kay would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who took part, those who generously donated their baking and to everyone who came on the Sunday.
